(Photo/Gigi's Lavender 2021 Harvest Day) Phenomenal is a lavender hybrid especially developed for winter hardiness combined with heat and humidity tolerance. Lavandula ‘Phenomenal’ plants form naturally soft mounds of silvery green foliage. The flower spikes are deeply purple-blue and heavily scented, a magnet for a variety of pollinating insects. Gardeners in deer prone areas should try growing Phenomenal lavender, which is low on these browsing animal’s menu list. This lavender is fast growing and has copious scented blooms perfect for cutting. The flowers will attract bees and butterflies as well as other beneficial insects.

"Royal Velvet is a Premium Culinary Lavender we use in our popular
Gigi's Lavender Seasoning & Rub
We have 5000 starts being custom grown & delivered to us for 2022 - from which we will then grow to larger plants. We're excited that several farmers in The Lavender Exchange will be adding our Royal Velvet variety to their farm. Soon we will be able to source the valuable Royal Velvet for our Lavender Seasoning directly from our own grower community here in Tennessee & the South. The Royal Velvet harvests will also be distilled and available as a high-grade essential oil. I had the pleasure of speaking with the original breeder this summer and came away with even a greater level of excitement about this species than I already had." ~ Gigi

Touted as one of the most popular Angustifolia cultivars currently available, this marvelous dark flowering Lavender was bred by Oregon nurseryman Andrew Van Hevelingen. Its attributes abound: an outstanding culinary aspect, aromatic opulent blooms that retain their intense coloration even when dried plus a tightly packed not-so-big profile. Cloaked in silver-laced green foliage, the spiffy compact mound launches striking 4 in. long flowers with bright violet-blue corollas and downy midnight-purple calyces on lanky stems. ‘Royal Velvet’ can be nudged into water-wise borders, herb gardens and containers as well as bouquets, and added to sugar, shortbread or lemonade.

NEW HYBRID Sensational™ blooms with flowers that are unusually large compared to other lavender varieties. Fragrant flowers and foliage have a dense, compact habit with a sweet floral aroma on sturdy stems. Low camphor content makes this an excellent choice for culinary uses, drying, and aromatherapy
The flowers on 'Hidcote Giant' are big, fat, and juicy looking, with dark violet-purple flowers and greenish violet calyces. Even one plant in the garden makes for a nice specimen, very showy! The fragrance is stronger with a hint of cedar, and bloom time is usually late June. This plant is great for cut flowers and also for lavender wands.
This lavender hybrid has the lovely tall spikes of its English lavender parentage (L. latifolia), with the added advantage of better heat tolerance from its Portuguese lavender parentage (L. latifolia). It is more adaptable to a wider range of soils, and although it thrives in nutrient poor, loose soils of an alkaline nature, it will tolerate acidic soils much better than many other lavenders.Average Size at MaturityModerate growing; reaches 1 1/2 to 3 ft. tall, 3 to 4 1/2 ft. wide.
